Sustainability, the roots of our future

Sustainability, the roots of our future

Control of the supply chain, respect for the environment, and attention to people: this is how we care for our future and that of the planet.

We are growing a betterfuture

Transparency is an essential principle in all our business. That is why we have decided to write a yearly, voluntary, Sustainability Statement, according to globally recognized standards. Since 2022, we take an annual photograph of the company’s environmental impact, recounting our commitment and the challenges that characterize the framework within which we work.

Our commitments

On the issues of sustainability most important for us, in 2023 we defined new objectives and concrete actions to reach them.

Respect for Nature

We are committed to reducing our impact through minimizing emissions, promoting circularity, and protecting our water resources. We want to optimize the consumption of our companies and install ecological self-producing energy plants. In 2024, we started the project to calculate the company’s Carbon Footprint to build a solid strategy for decarbonization. We believe in circularity and we want to dedicate 100% of the fruit unsuitable for consumption to recovery plants: no fruit will be wasted.

Looking into the future

Innovation is the driving force for our growth and our success. We are always on the lookout for new varieties that can satisfy consumer’s tastes and that can best respond to a quickly changing climate. We grow them in close collaboration without supply chain, following a shared consolidated evolution plan. To us, innovation also means implementing new technology in the production processes, extending the shelf life of our products, and using materials with a low environmental impact, committing to sue at least 70% of packaging solutions created with recycled, recyclable, or biodegradable materials.

The value of people

The quality of Spreafico’s products is the result of the work of the people who dedicate their care and attention to their daily work, in our plants and along the supply chain. This is why we want to guarantee a safe workplace for all of them and a path for the professional growth of our employees. Respect for the working conditions and human rights is a priory that guides us in our choices of suppliers. We want to continue to spread health lifestyles and health nutritional models, promoting nutritional education programs for the consumer.

progetto Regusto

Attention to social issues

Spreafico is constantly committed to social sustainability activities to promote the health and development of local communities. Each year the company actively contributes to important social programs through donations. Specifically, we participate in projects dedicated to the improvement of the level of children’s schooling in the communities located at our main areas of banana production in Columbia. In parallel, the company is dedicate to supporting projects aimed at the care and rehabilitation of people with disabilities on a national level.

The Fairtrade Spreafico certification proves our commitment to fair trade practices, and respect for the human rights of the farmers in Latin America. Furthermore, in terms of circular solidarity, since July 2024, Spreafico has adhered to the Regusto project, a digital platform that allows spreading excess food that may be wasted to non-profit organizations, consolidating practice that has been active for some time.

Ecovadis silver medal

In March 2024, Spreafico was given a silver medal by Ecovadis, becoming part of the top the 15% of companies assessed worldwide on four main issues: environment, working practices and human rights, ethics, and sustainable purchases.

Certified quality and responsibility

Over the years we have formalized our commitment by obtaining quality, social responsibility, and environmental certifications.
